Inside our Vol 17 Spring issue
Spring is coming…
People often ask me, “why Scandi?” and, “surely it’s all neutral interiors?”. To which I reply that’s just one of many Scandi looks, and not the one seen in most homes of our Nordic neighbours. Yes, I’ll happily agree that the neutral, minimalist look is lovely; it’s a space for hero pieces to shine, and the chance to use lots of texture – but, as the homes we feature show, there’s colour, pattern and personality to be found too. So for our Vol 17 Spring issue, we decided to look for homes that reflected their owners, that were very much ‘personal’ – for we all want homes that… well, say ‘us’. I believe that’s what makes a Scandi-style home special: that there’s artwork on display, favourite furniture – whether new or old, colourful or natural – and, yes, even pattern and colour.
Talking of which, I had the lovely job of chatting to Swedish designer Cathy Nordström, who’s on a mission to see more colour and pattern in Swedish homes. Find her tips in our Simply Personal section, while Niki Brantmark takes us on a tour of Österlen, where each spring artists’ studios, galleries and cafés open their doors for Konstrundan, a tour of all things creative. It’s definitely going on my to-visit list.
I do hope you enjoy the issue, and I’ll see you next time,
Until next time…
