BTS style secrets of our Vol 19 Autumn cover home
Is it wrong to be wishing for Autumn? I've always loved the colours, texture – and if I'm honest – temperature of Fall. And Autumn in Scandinavia doesn't disappoint, whether in the town or country
Our cover home, the Swedish villa of interior designer Annika and her husband Mattias, has been completely transformed from the inside out. The result is a warm, inviting home that’s full of contrasts – from colour to materials, to old and new. For our Vol 19 Autumn cover home, their living room, with its inviting sofa, splashes of autumn colour, and creatively stylish coffee table, was the obvious choice, but we had plenty of other favourite moments…

1 Annika's great use of black
Annika has used accents of black from the moment you walk into her Swedish family home. "My style has evolved over the years, but black has always been a part of it," she shares. "It adds contrast and gravity to the earthy tones I'm drawn to." Aside from her black kitchen units, black pops up throughout – even lighting and picture frames add to her Scandi style."

2 The way she's used texture on surfaces
While many of us add a rug or a cosy linen through when we want to turn up the texture, Annika has taken this texture one step further, adding seagrass wallpaper in the living room. This helps to link the spaces.

3 Annika's love of art
Look around her home and there's artwork everywhere, even stacked waiting to be hung (or swapped when she fancies a change). Pieces are framed in simple black frames, some pieces given space to shine individually, others creating impact as a gallery. Many of the artworks are Annika's own work: "I love creating, whether that's painting or building something from scratch," she says.
