Style secrets – Vol 14 cover home

Summer… possibly our favourite season in Simply Scandi land, when we get to see inside gorgeous summerhouses, full of clever ideas

Take Emilia's Danish summerhouse, with its light and airy rooms, pretty garden and conservatory that's enjoyed during the spring and winter months, for example. It had just the right indoor/outdoor feel for our cover image of our new Vol 14 Summer issue, especially as we were in the midst of a very wet spring. As we wondered if we'd ever be able to go to the shops sans umbrellas, this dining room shot, with its sunny outlook hit all the right feels. Of course, there's always more to show. Here are a few of our favourite shots that you won't see in print…

1. The made-for-hygge-moments dining table

Emilia and Kasper threw themselves into the renovation of their Danish summerhouse, half-an-hour's drive away from their Copenhagen apartment, sanding floors and painting walls white, while also fitting a new kitchen and bathroom. The dining table, a find from auction site DBA, was bought for DKK 500. The couple then sanded and limewashed it to make the perfect table for the dining/conservatory room. It can comfortably seat six-eight guests.

2. A pretty shelfie

With low ceilings, there was little space to fit wall units, so Emilia and Kasper fitted a wall shelf instead. This helps to lead the eye up to a pretty collection of teapots, coffee pots and jugs. A few foraged branches from the garden of the summerhouse, popped in a vase, adds to the display.

3. Handy hooks and summer frocks

Sometimes it's nice to add a burst of colour or pattern, and a few wall hooks are ideal for displaying a favourite dress or bag. Here, a trio of hooks makes use of a skinny section of wall in the bedroom to show of a beautiful green sprig dress.

4. A sunlounger ready to 'lounge'

The sunbed, from Tine K Home, has proved a great buy for the garden. Placed under a parasol, and 'bedded in' with pots of flowering plants, it creates a relaxing zone, away from the more socialble outdoor dining space. Emilia confesses to spending many hours here.

5. The prettiest garden-picked flowers

Emilia often brings in fresh flowers and plants to her summerhouse to make the space feel alive. "Colour brings a good energy to a room," she says.
